How to measure
Measure the room
Measure the width and length of the open floor area the rug will sit in.
Pick the use
Living, dining and bedroom rugs follow different placement rules โ choose the right one.
Leave a border
A rug should stop short of the walls (about 30โ45 cm) so it frames the space rather than fills it.
Dining needs extra
For dining, the rug must extend ~60 cm past the table so chairs stay on it when pulled out.

What size rug for a 4 ร 5 m living room?
Around a 240 ร 300 cm (8 ร 10 ft) rug, leaving roughly 45 cm of floor showing around the edges.
How big should a dining room rug be?
Big enough that the chairs stay on the rug when pulled out โ about 60 cm beyond every edge of the table.
How this is calculated
We convert your room dimensions to centimetres and subtract a border (about 90 cm total for living and dining, 75 cm for bedrooms), then pick the largest standard rug that fits within the result. Placement rules vary by room โ dining rugs need extra room for chairs, bedroom rugs sit under and around the bed.
